The National Black Police Association(NBPA)

It was established in 1999 with a mission to improve the working environment of Black staff by protecting the rights of those employed within the Police Service. Its main aims were to enhance racial harmony and the quality of service to the Black community of the United Kingdom. Thereby assisting the Police Service in delivering a fair and equitable service to all sections of the community.

The National Black Police Association (NBPA) is an organisation comprising of over 45 local Black police staff networks in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The NBPA works to place fairness at the heart of the Police Agenda. We do this by taking forward initiatives for the Progression of minority officers and staff ; such as mentoring schemes, leadership programmes, women in policing projects supported by the National Institute for Leadership and Empowerment.

The NBPA has a high Profile within the Home Office and Government Strategic Committees. As well as members of a range of decision-making steering groups, we have regular meetings with the all policing stakeholders.

The Performance of the NBPA is recorded and documented to provide the widest sharing of information and learning. All the work of the Cabinet members and administrative team are governed by our set of policies and procedures to ensure transparency and accountability. Nationally the loss of Black staff from the service was at alarming level.
