Verdict of the Mark Duggan Inquest

Following the verdict of ‘Lawful Killing’ in the Mark Duggan Inquest, the Metropolitan Black Police Association (MetBPA) acknowledges the tragic loss of life of Mark Duggan.

The MetBPA believe that it is of paramount importance for the Police and the community to work together to maintain cohesive community relations at this time.

JanetHills, Chair of the MetBPA, said “Whilst we must accept the verdict of the jury, we would now expect the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) to review the decision-making process made in response to the intelligence gathered in this case.  There will be many in the community who are concerned that the verdict is contradictory.”

In addition, Mrs Hills stated that it is critical for the community to remain calm, as we await the conclusion of the coroners report and the IPCC investigation. The MetBPA will continue to work with the community and the MPS to ensure better community relations
